Yarn Color A – Sugarwheel Cotton Solids: Daffodil Days

Color B – Sugarwheel Cotton Solids: Velvet Blush

Hook Size F/5 -3.75mm Hook

Gauge Granny Square – 3” x 3”

Abbreviations

● sl st – slip stitch

● sk st – skip stitch

● sc – single crochet

● inc – increase with two stitches in same space

● dec – work two stitches together

● hdc – half double crochet

● hdc cluster – see below

● dc – double crochet

● fphdc – front post half double crochet

● fpdc – front post double crochet

● fptc – front post treble crochet

● ( ) – repeat around or number of times specified

Hdc Puff

(Yarn over, insert hook into space, pull up loop) repeat 3 times, yarn over, pull through all 7 loops on hook.

With Color A

Make magic ring

Rnd 1: ch 2, 12 hdc in magic ring, sl st to join round – 12

Cut yarn and weave in ends

With Color B

Attach new yarn into any space between 2 hdcs from rnd 1

Rnd 2: ch 2, (hdc puff, ch 1) in each st around, sl st to join round – 12

Cut yarn and weave in ends

With Color C

Attach new yarn into any space between 2 hdcs from rnd 2

Rnd 3: {(ch 3, 2 dc (3dc in subsequent repeats), ch 2, 3 dc) in same space, (3 hdc) in next 2 spaces,} repeat around, slip stitch to join round

Rnd 4: sl st around, sl st in first to join round – 56

Cut yarn and weave in ends To join granny squares, hold two granny squares right sides together and slip stitch together in a line. Be careful to slip stitch using the tops of hdcs from rnd 3, not in the slip stitches

Headband

With Color C

Join color at corner, we’ll work this section twice to make the border and ties.

Row 1: Sc across long side, inc at corner, sc across short side, stop at corner

Turn

Row 2: ch 1, dec, 10 sc, dec, turn – 12

Row 3: ch 1, dec, 8 sc, dec, turn – 10

Row 4: ch 1, dec, 6 sc, dec, turn – 8

Row 5: ch 1, dec, 4 sc, dec, turn – 6

Row 6-23: ch 3, 5 fpdc, turn – 6

Row 24: ch 4, fptc, fpdc, fphdc, fphdc, sl st – 6

Cut yarn and weave in ends

Flip work and repeat Rnd 1-24 from the opposite corner

Stop here for a headband! Carry on to make a kerchief.
